Hot Summer Nights Concert Series

Thursdays in August,  7 p.m.,  “Hot Summer Nights Concert Series” at the library! Concerts will be inside the library in air conditioning and are sponsored by the Blount County Friends of the Library.

  • August 3:  Cruz Contreras, Americana acoustic (and front man for the Black Lillies), will kick off this season’s series. Co-founding Robinella and the CC Stringband here in Maryville some years ago, he has now gone on to create an Americana band of talent that travels and performs internationally while drawing its songs from roots of blues, folk, soul and country.
  • August 10:  The Ebbert Family (Summar, Bridget & Tyler) will perform bluegrass, mountain, Celtic, Civil War, gospel and classical on string instruments. Students of premier violinist and musician, Conny Ottway, this young family of siblings plays multiple instruments. Playing the violin for 8 years, Summar is followed closely by her sister Bridget who has been playing for 5.  Tyler picked up the guitar a year ago and has been playing with his sisters ever since.  Recently, all three competed in the 2017 Tennessee State Fiddle Championship where Bridget became the Tennessee Pee Wee Fiddle Champion.

Sisters of the Silver Sage - new image 7-26-2017
  • August 17:  Sisters of the Silver Sage will play western and cowboy music with a blended harmony reminiscent of the Old West and The Sons of the Pioneers. Three sisters, Rhonda, Janet and Donna formed the original group which now includes two of the sisters and a niece. The group has won awards in Western music. 
  • August 24:  Knoxville Jazz Youth Orchestra Small Ensemble will perform under the direction of Tom Lundberg. This small group plays with the larger Knoxville Jazz Youth Orchestra.

KOC Broadway and Operetta
  • August 31:  An Evening of Broadway & Operetta with Knoxville Opera Company, conducted by Maestro Brian Salesky. This Hot Summer Nights finale will feature a concert of Broadway and Operetta classics presented by Knoxville Opera: exciting selections from West Side Story, Porgy and Bess, and The Music Man, along with gorgeous melodies from German and American operettas. As kick-off to Knoxville Opera’s 40th anniversary season, Maestro Brian Salesky, Executive Director and Conductor of Knoxville Opera, will host the library concert and accompany two outstanding young artists: soprano Jacquie Brecheen, and tenor Darius Thomas.
