  • Through July 31,  Tic-Tac-Toe returns with an all new set of goals for this year’s summer reading. 1) Pick up Tic-Tac-Toe card at the Circulation desk. You may enter multiple times. 2) Read, listen or watch three items per Tic-Tac-Toe card and fill in the card. 3) Validate the card at the Circulation Desk to enter weekly and Grand Prize drawings. 4) Weekly prizes will be awarded on Friday afternoons. The Grand Prize ($200 Amazon gift card) will be awarded before the Shakespeare play on Monday, July 31, at 6:15 p.m.
  • Through Saturday,  July 29: Sign-ups for the Teen’s Summer Reading Challenge! This summer, teens will do more than challenge themselves to read and earn points toward prizes – though you can still do that! Sign up for the Summer Reading Challenge and get your Challenge Journal at the Reference desk (near Teen Central). The Challenge Journal will help you track points toward weekly drawings and, at summer’s end, a grand prize drawing for a Kindle Fire.  Sign up at the Reference Desk.
  • Through Saturday,  July 29: Conquest of Libraria Begins! When you sign up for the Summer Reading Challenge, you’ll also be assigned to one of five “Houses,” and all Challenge points you earn will also accumulate toward House totals. Each week, librarians will tally points to see which House is on its way to conquering the mysterious realm of Libraria! Earn points for reading, writing, attending library events, doing community service and more. Weekly House Meeting Hangouts, starting in June, will let teens plan strategies with your House members, or just meet face-to-face with your fellow Libraria contenders and enjoy social time, games and snacks. See Youth Services or Reference librarians for complete rules for the Conquest. Check out the map posted each week in the library and on social media to see how the Conquest is going. And remember: The honor of your House is at stake!
  • Saturdays, June 10, 17, 24 and July 1, 15 and 22,  2 p.m., “Conquest of Libraria” House Meeting Hangouts. This is your chance to talk strategy with your fellow House members, including declaring battles and alliances – or just hang out and meet face-to-face. If the hangout doesn’t coincide with another event (such as “Gaming @ Your Library,” July 8 or “Video Game Trivia,” July 22), the gathering will take place in Teen Central.
Teens & Adults
  • Through Friday, July 28, “The Inaugural #BCPLHistoryHunt.”  The inaugural #BCPLHistoryHunt is a scavenger hunt designed to highlight some of the most historically important structures and locations in Maryville. The hunt will officially start on June 1 & run for 8 weeks. On Thursdays, June 1 through July 20, a clue will be announced via FACEBOOK ( for the week’s history hunt. Once participants find a location, they will have until noon on Friday of the following week for a “selfie” to be posted to participant’s INSTAGRAM account ( All selfies must be taken in front of the designated location and tagged  #BCPLHistoryHunt.  Participants under age 18 who want a “selfie” used on BCPL social media should go to the library with a parent to sign a photo release form.  Don’t spoil the fun!  Once you find it, do NOT post the name of the mystery building/location!  Weekly Drawing: The name of the weekly winner will be drawn from correct submissions and announced on Friday afternoons, along with the name of the mystery building/location.  Monthly Drawing: All patrons who participate in finding the clues for that month will be entered into the monthly drawing to be held at the end of the month, on Friday, June 30 and July 28, in addition to the weekly drawings. Selfies for monthly drawings are cumulative, so the more you have, the greater the chances of winning the monthly prize.
