“Putting the Puzzle Pieces Together with the Help of the Archives & Other Resources”
In celebration of Archives Month, Blount County Records Management and Archives Department will host a presentation at the Blount County Public Library in the Dorothy Herron A Meeting Room on Thursday, October 26, 2017 from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. This year’s presentation is about William B. Scott former Mayor of Maryville and it is entitled “Putting the Puzzle Pieces Together with the Help of the Archives & Other Resources” by speaker, Elaine Russell. Mrs. Russell has been volunteering the past several months at the Blount County Records Management & Archives where she has been researching original documents for information on William B. Scott who was Mayor of Maryville in 1869.
Elaine Russell is past president of the Captain W. Y. C. Hannum Chapter 1881 United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) and serves the Tennessee Division UDC as Historian. Elaine is also a member-at-large of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). As a Certified Tourist Ambassador (CTA) for Blount County, she is an enthusiastic volunteer for many Blount County events.
Elaine claims genealogy as an addiction. She loves a challenge and delights in investigative writing, seeking out new resources to find missing pieces, creatively putting them together and mastering the puzzle. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Blount County Genealogical and Historical Society and writes regularly for The Journal. She is also a published writer of historical articles forUDC Magazine and the Tennessee Division Newsletter. She has provided several historical displays for the Blount County Public Library.
Elaine and her husband, Bob, retired Knoxville Firefighter and former Mayor of Townsend, live in Alcoa. They are active members of Broadway United Methodist Church.
