Library Sponsored - Open to the Public

Monday, August 21,  1 to 4 p.m.,  “Total Solar Eclipse Safe Viewing & Activities.”   To celebrate this rare event of a total solar eclipse, the library is hosting a safe viewing of the solar eclipse (Limited quantity CE ISO certified viewing glasses. To ensure you have viewing glasses, bring your own.) and the low-tech pinhole camera as well as a variety of informational activities and children’s crafts related to the eclipse. You’re invited to the library’s main gallery, children’s library – and the solar eclipse viewing on the pedestrian bridge outside the library for this unique experience, sponsored by the Blount County Friends of the Library.

Some (not all) locations in the following retail chains sell ISO-compliant safe eclipse glasses and/or handheld viewers made by the companies listed at the top of this page, so you can confidently buy solar viewers if you find them in their stores — but not on their websites. Links are provided only to help you locate the store nearest you.
