Appalachian Folk Music with Sonrize (Southern Appalachian Studies Series)

Monday, September 25, 2017

Library Sponsored - Open to the Public

  • Monday, September 25,  7 p.m.,  “Southern Appalachian Studies Series: Appalachian Folk Music with Sonrize.”    Immigrants from England, Wales, Ireland, and Scotland had a powerful influence on the music of the Southern Appalachians.  The group Sonrize will perform some of the traditional ballads and folksongs brought from the “Old Country” and then nurtured and passed down through the ages by the first settlers who came into the Smoky Mountains. Sonrize is a group of musicians who love the music of the mountains where they grew up and love playing it.  The group consists of Mark Ross, Lester Baldwin, Donny Anderson, Justin Marcus, Jill Bond who play guitars, a mandolin, fiddle, and bass fiddle that backup the voices as they sing the songs of the mountains. This program will be in the Main Gallery end of the Reading Rotunda.
