WHO MAY OBTAIN A LIBRARY CARD
Library cards are issued free of charge to permanent residents of Blount County
or owners of real estate in Blount County (with proof of ownership).
Persons who neither live nor own property in Blount County may obtain a library
card upon payment of an annual $20 fee.
To acquire a library card, a person must complete an application, provide proof
of identity, as well as proof of current mailing address, and sign a statement
of responsibility. Applications for those persons under eighteen years of
age require the signature of a parent or legal guardian who must also have a
valid (in good standing) library card for the Blount County Public Library.
Children of residents or property owners will be issued a card without charge.
The annual fee of $20 will be charged for cards issued to children of holders of
non-resident/out-of-county cards.
Upon successful completion of the library card application, the library will
mail a confirmation postcard to the address on the application. When the
postcard is received, the patron must bring it and picture identification to the
library, at which time the library card will be issued and checkout of two items
will be permitted.
CARDHOLDER PRIVILEGES
Patrons can borrow books, videos, DVDs, music CDs, talking books on cassette or
CD, book/toy kits, or magazines from any of the library's circulating
collections.
Cardholders may use any of the library's 31
public access computers programmed with Microsoft Office and Internet
Explorer.
CARDHOLDER RESPONSIBILITIES
Since the cardholder is responsible for any materials checked out on his/her
card, it is very unwise to loan a library card to another person. A $3
replacement fee is charged if the card is lost, stolen or damaged beyond use.
Please inform the library staff if a card is lost or stolen or if an address or
telephone number has changed. YOU MUST HAVE YOUR LIBRARY CARD WITH YOU IN
ORDER TO CHECK OUT ANY MATERIALS. Failure to return library materials is a
serious matter and can result in library privileges being suspended or referral
to a collection agency.
